TUTCO Farnam developed a 100% custom control panel for one of our customers who’s application required  removing moisture from a powder. The unit can control three different styles of 15 heaters simultaneously while integrating into the customer's production process and control system. The 70 amp, 480 volt, 3 phase unit offers 15 zones, each with a circuit breaker and an alarm contactor that is set for a temperature point programmed for the individual heater. Three of the 15 zones are 120 volt and are connected to a 120 volt 2KVA transformer located on the outside of the cabinet.

The proper installation of a flexible heater with PSA can be a simple process. In this video, we provide step-by-step best practices to ensure you install your heater correctly. Care should be taken not to bend, fold or crease the heater with the control liner attached. Ensure the heater and the surface it will be attached to are clean and free of any dirt or grease. Once you have carefully marked where the final heater will be installed, you are ready to pull back the first two inches of the release liner and begin your installation.

Testing the resistance of a TUTCO-Farnam heater is determined using OHMS LAW Equation and the heaters specs. Please note the +/- 5% final cold resistance tolerance on all TUTCO-Farnam process air heaters.

The TPC-CASH 1500, is a compact version of our TPC 1500. The unit includes a 1.5kW Cool Touch inline air heater, adjustable temperature control, flow switch, high-limit thermostat protection, and solid-state relay, in a wall-mountable steel enclosure. 120V or 240V power options are available, with airflows up to 70 SCFM and a maximum pressure of 120 PSIG. The maximum output temperature is 250°F.

Closed-loop heater control systems use power controllers, a temperature controller, and thermocouples to monitor and provide constant output voltages to the heater.  Regardless of changes in airflow, the temperature is constantly measured to maintain processes and protect the heater.

Patrick demonstrates how to auto tune a 7550 series control panel with a Heat Torch 200 inline air heater installed.

Today we're going to discuss the autotuning feature of the 7550 Series Temperature Process Controller. We have a Heat Torch 200 heater installed right here with a process and high limit thermocouple going into the 7550 Series Thermal Process Controller. We already have airflow established through the heater above the minimum requirements. The first thing we're going to do is turn on the 7550 series controller. Upon turning it on it will instantly go into a hold mode for safety. We're going to start by going into the setup menu. We're going to set our process temperature for 200 degrees Fahrenheit. To initiate the autotune cycle we need to cycle through the menu until we get to the autotuning setting. The autotune is currently off. We are going to turn it on. We are going to exit out of the menu. Upon turning the heat on the autotune cycle will start. The controller is now autotuning. This can take up to 90 minutes. As you can see the autotune cycle has completed and the temperature is now holding at the process set value. Thank you for watching.

This is a brief overview of the installation and wiring of the 7550 Series Temperature Control Panel. When you unpack your control panel the very first thing that you should come across is the installation and control manual. This should contain all of the information that you need to install, wire and operate the unit. We will go over most that right now. For this demonstration we've already mounted the unit and I've already have power wires and heater supply wires plumbed into the unit. We added holes into the unit as well as strain reliefs to those holes to hold the wires in place. Here we have the heater wiring. This will come from the control panel to the heater. This is the supply wiring. This will come to the control panel from our disconnect panel. These are the wirings for the process and high limit thermal couples. We're going to begin by wiring in the supply power, ground wire along with the ground wire that what we go into the heater. This will ensure the heater is always properly grounded to an earth ground. Now we will continue to wire the additional legs of our three phase circuit. Now our supply wiring has been installed in the ground L1, L2 and L3 locations. We will now wire the heater in H1 H2 and H3. We have the supply wiring as well as the wiring coming from the control panel to the heater wired. Now we're going to install our interlocked jumpers. Since our install will not include a snap switch or a flow sensor we will place jumpers in these to prevent the controller from signaling an error with an interlock. Now we have our thermocouple wiring. We have two thermocouples. One to act as a process temperature control. The other to act as a high limit protection. We will first install the high limit thermal couple protection which is factory set with a high limit adjustment of 1200F. Install the process thermocouple both of which offer a third terminal for a shielding wire. Not all thermocouples have shielding wires but this prevents any interference in the thermocouple readings. Now the controller is completely wired and ready to be wired to a heater. This is how you wire the 7550 Series Temperature Process Controller. Thanks for watching.

A demonstration of proper wiring for the Flow Torch 400 open coil heater.

Today we're going to demonstrate wiring of a Flow Torch 400. The first thing we're going to do is remove the junction box cover. This will allow us access to the terminal block to allow proper wiring. I'm going to install our cord grip. Next we'll install our wiring through the cord grip into the junction box. Tighten our cord grip up. Should be good to go. First thing we're going to do is remove the nut from the ground stud. I connect the ground wire with a ring terminal that we've previously installed. Replace the ground stud nuts and tighten. Next we will install our wiring. For this particular air heater there are six wires coming into our terminal block. We can either wire this heater as two separate circuits or we can wire them with one 3-phase circuit and jumpers. Today we're going to wire this as one 3-phase circuit with jumpers. Now that all of our wiring is in place we will tighten all the determinations. Wiring of the Flow Torch is now complete. We would now replace the junction box cover and test the system.

Flow Torch air heaters are used with blowers in low-pressure high-flow situations. Inlet temperatures up to 250°F and exhaust temperatures, depending on wattage and flow, up to 932°F. It will handle flows anywhere from 19 to 2,000 SCFM.

Dexter introduces the insulation blankets for the Flow Torch family of heaters. Protect people and product with reduced external temperatures, and save money by reducing waste heat.

Hi I'm Dexter Diepholz. I'm director of engineering here at Tutco Farnam and I'm just going to take a minute to tell you a little bit about our new insulation blanket for the flow torch family. We have an insulation blanket made for each size of the flow torch family. It's a flexible insulation blanket with an outside of silicone fiberglass. The inside has got vextra which is rated to a thousand degrees. This is going to save you money and it's going to improve the safety with lower temperatures on the outside. The outside is puncture resistant. It's oil and water resistant and as far as saving money for more details you can see my white paper (Using Insulation Blankets Makes Cents) on the website. It's just a very nice accessory. All you got to do is take these four d-rings and straps, cinch them up, hook the hog ring and you're all set. Thank you.

Cool Touch hot air process heaters are used in low-flow high-pressure situations involving compressed air. As the name implies, they are cool to the touch. They can handle flows as low as .5 CFM and as high as 120 CFM with pressures up to 120 PSI. They are available in wattages from .5 kW up to 12.5 kW, and can produce temperatures (wattage and flow dependent) up to 1,300°F.

Hi. My name is AJ Nidek. I'm a business development manager here at Tutco Farnam Custom Products. Today we're going to be talking about our Heat Torch family of products. Generally speaking, Heat Torches are low flow, high pressure heaters used with compressed air. They can handle flows as low as .3 SCFM and as high as 120 SCFM. They can handle pressures up to 120 PSI. The Heat Torches are available in ODs as small as 3/10ths of an inch up to 2 inches. Thermocouples can be installed on them in addition to fittings to allow it to easier integrate into your system. Most of our Heat Torches have a ceramic honeycomb core to them in which we've wound nichrome resistance wire creating a very robust, energy efficient, long lasting heater. Welcome to the video demonstration of Tutco-Farnam's Build Your Own Heater website tool. The first step is to navigate to farnam-custom.com. You can either type that directly into the URL bar or do a search for air heaters. Find us on the first page and click. Once you're on our website go ahead and navigate to a product page. The product builder tool is located on most of the standard air heater pages. For this demonstration we will look at the Heat Torch Family page. Once there you will find general information about the standard Heat Torch products. Scroll to the bottom and you will find the Build Your Own Heater Tool. This tool is designed to help someone configure a product based on parameters like watts, volts, fittings and so forth. It will only create valid configurations. Meaning you can't create a heater that we can't build. Okay. Right now we're going to pick a product. For this demonstration we're going to pick the Heat Torch 050 Ceramic. Notice the options in the fields have changed. The physical limitations of certain choices can change the options you have in other areas. For example under exhaust fittings if you choose "no fitting" you will see that you no longer have any thermocouple fitting options. Basically to have a thermocouple you need a fitting to screw it into. You might also notice that when you hover your mouse over the fitting options a dimensioned drawing of that fitting appears. Notice as you fill out the fields a part number is being generated. This part number will be attached to your inquiry to help expedite your request. For those aspects of the product that are unknown you will see a question mark in the part number. And that's okay. You can fill out this tool as much or as little as you like and the part number will reflect your choices. When you are ready click the send inquiry button. Once you click you will see a 'thank you' message and a contact form. The part number you generated is automatically included. Fill out the form. Add any additional questions/comments and click submit. A representative of Tutco-Farnam will respond to your request usually within 24 hours. And that is how you use our Build Your Own Heater Tool. This is a quick and easy way to choose the most relevant air heater family. This demo shows how the tool auto-sorts air heaters based on criteria you provide. We are dealing primarily with inline process open coil air heaters for industrial applications, OEMs and end user products. This includes duct heaters, heat torch, cool touch, flow torch, axial fan heaters and crossflow blower heaters.

Welcome to our video demonstration of Tutco-Farnam's 'Determine Your Heater' website tool. The first step to using this tool is going to be to navigate to Farnam-Custom.com. You can either type that directly in the URL bar or do a search for 'air heaters'. Find us on the first page and then click. Here we are at the Tutco-Farnam homepage. The purpose of the 'Determine Your Heater' tool is to help someone who knows what they need in a heater but they're really not quite sure how that fits into Tutco-Farnam's product offering. If you hover over Standard Air Heaters and then click on Determined Your Heater you're going to see all Tutco-Farnam's standard products at a glance. You can compare them by max wattage, exhaust temperature and so forth. If none of the standard products fit your needs remember that Tutco-Farnam can engineer a custom solution and that is the majority of what we do. To learn more about each product you can click the image for a brief overview or click the name to visit the full product page. If you know a certain requirement of your heater you can fill that in and immediately the list will be filtered by that requirement. As an example let's say that I know I need a 1000 watt heater. I would fill in that field and see heaters that only have a minimum of 1000 watts or more. You can fill in as many of these fields as you want and the list will be filtered appropriately. You can add CFM, Inlet temperature, PSI, whatever variables you know. By clicking reset you can clear your search and start over with new parameters. You can also click two or more checkboxes next to the product image so you can pair the heaters side by side. At any time you can click show all to reset all the parameters. That's our Determine Your Heater tool. As you can see it is a simple tool that can save you a significant amount of time as you determine your heater.
